Slippery substance is blamed for injuries at Home Depot

Home Depot in Edwardsville

A woman who fell on a “slippery substance” at the Edwardsville Home Depot on Aug. 21, claims the retailer failed to clean its outdoor garden center on a regular basis.

Seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages, Hope Jones filed suit in Madison County Circuit Court Sept. 12 for injuries she allegedly sustained.

Jones is represented by Collinsville attorney John Leskera.

She also claims Home Depot failed to warn customers the premises were slick and failed to take adequate precautions to eliminate the slippery substance from the aisle way.

According to the complaint, Jones suffered a compression fracture of her lumbar vertebrae, incurred medical expenses for her care and treatment, lost wages and has experienced pain and suffering.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Dan Stack.
