Missourians sue Cassens for injuries sustained in auto accident

Two Missouri women who were injured in an auto accident on westbound I-255 in St. Louis County filed suit in Madison County Circuit Court Aug. 26 against Cassens Transport Company.

Stacey Meyer claims she was driving Brandy Redwine’s 2002 Pontiac Grand Am on June 27, 2003, when Otis Schulte, a Cassens employee who was driving a work vehicle, collided with them. The wreck sent the Grand Am airborne, passing over the concrete traffic barrier which separated east- and westbound interstate lanes.

According to the complaint, after the Grand Am jumped the concrete barrier it struck several other barriers and came to a stop in the outside lane of eastbound I-255.

The plaintiffs claim Schulte failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to drive in a single lane, failed to yield the right of way and improperly attempted to pass on the right.

“Redwine’s neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, trunk, spinal column, vertebrae, intervertebral disks, and all of the limbs of the body and all of the muscles, bones, cartilages, ligaments, tendons, tissues, nerves, blood vessels, membranes and all the parts and structures thereof were seriously bruised, contused, lacerated, cut, torn, swollen, aggravated, ruptured, mashed, wrenched, narrowed, compressed, subluxed, abraded, dislocated, strained, sprained, and rendered stiff, sore and painful,” the complaint states.

Meyer also suffered similar injuries and both plaintiffs claim they suffered emotional distress and shock to the nervous system, extreme pain, medical expenses and have lost wages.

The plaintiffs are each seeking damages in excess of $50,000 but less than $75,000, they are represented by Michael Smallwood of Clayton.
