Olin employee sues for injuries over defective fire extinguisher

Olin plant

An Olin employee who was injured in a fire on Jan. 10 filed a suit against the seller, provider, servicer and installer of a fire extinguishing system in Madison County Circuit Court Aug. 26.

Seeking damages in excess of $450,000, Richard Unangst claims an extinguisher produced by Fire Safety, Inc., Kidde PLC, and United Technologies failed to work when a fire broke out. He alleges a sensor was defective.

Unangst claims he was severely burned and has suffered permanent pain, mental anguish, disability, disfigurement, became liable for medical expenses, lost wages and has been permanently prevented from attending to his usual affairs and duties.

Unangst’s wife, Kim, claims she has been deprived of the love, companionship, consortium and support to which she is entitled from her husband.

The Unangsts are represented by Thomas Keefe.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian.
