Three Mount Vernon docs named in St. Clair County med mal suit

Three Mount Vernon physicians were named in a St. Clair County medical malpractice lawsuit filed by a man who was permanently injured after suffering a "severe" stroke and hemiparesis.

Cyril Dean Cates claims internist Yun Ling, M.D. and otolaryngologist Jacques Papazian, M.D. were negligent for not requesting a "stat" neurological evaluation when he was admitted to an emergency room Aug. 10, 2003. The suit does not indicate from which hospital Cates received treatment.

Neurologist Tomasz Kosierkiewicz, M.D. is blamed for not administering heparin therapy in a timely fashion.

"Plaintiff has suffered physical pain, mental suffering, mental anquish and disfigurement," the complaint states. "The plaintiff has been permanently prevented from attending his usual affairs and duties."

Seeking at least $150,000, Cates is represented by Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer & Shevlin Ltd. of Belleville.
