Broadway Avenue filed suit July 8 in St. Clair County Circuit Court seeking at least $50,000 in damages from the City of East St. Louis alleging the city violated the Illinois Municipal Code.
According to the complaint, the city demolished the building at 2050 Missouri Ave. on July 9, 2004, without legal justification or authority.
Broadway Avenue owners claims that it suffered damages as they lost the value and use of their property when the city allegedly trespassed to demolish their building.
Broadway is represented by Garrett Hoerner of Belleville.
