Woman twists foot while sparing daughter from falling cabinet

In the process of heroically preventing a falling piece of furniture from striking her daughter, Erin Rangle twisted her left leg and foot.

Now, Rangle is suing Rothman Furniture Stores, the parent company of the Ultimate Furniture Outlet in Granite City, for permanent injuries she claims took place on June 6, 2003.

Represented by William S. Beatty of Glen Carbon, Rangle is seeking in excess of $100,000 in Madison County Circuit Court.

According to the suit filed June 6, while shopping at the Granite City store Rangle grabbed a display curio cabinet that came close to falling on her daughter, McKenna.

"The plaintiff received permanent and personal injuries to the bones, muscles and tissues of her leg and foot," the suit states.

Rangle claims the store was negligent for failing to secure the cabinet, placing it in on an unstable surface and not warning the public that it was unsecured.

Rangle states she has had to expend large sums of money for medical treatment and has lost large sums of money "that she might have otherwise gained from the pursuit of her usual occupation."
