Wood River woman sued over auto accident

A driver and her passenger have sued a motorist whom they allege caused their injuries in a 2014 auto accident.

Stephanie Hale and Richard Wilkinson filed a lawsuit filed April 6 in Madison County Circuit Court, against Carolyn Magruder of Wood River, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on May 28, 2014, Hale, with Wilkinson as her passenger, was driving her 2000 Plymouth Neon north on state Route 3 at state Route 143 in Wood River, as Magruder was driving her 2012 Jeep Patriot east on state Route 143, approaching state Route 3. The suit says Magruder entered the intersection "when it was unsafe to do so," collided with Hale's vehicle and caused injuries to Hale and Wilkinson.

Magruder is cited with failing to keep her vehicle under control; failing to brake in order to avoid striking another vehicle; failing to steer her vehicle to avoid striking another vehicle; and failing to obey traffic control devices at the intersection.

Hale and Wilkinson seek damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. They are represented by attorney Samuel A. Mormino of Mormino, Velloff and Snider in Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 15-L-442.
