A railroad is being sued over claims they are liable under the Federal Employers' Liability Act.
Darren C. Coughlin filed a lawsuit Feb. 3 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Union Pacific Railroad Co., citing violations of the Federal Employers' Liability Act and cumulative trauma.
Coughlin states he was employed as a carman by the defendant and was working in Dupo Illinois Car Shop in Dupo when he was injured while lifting an Argon welding tank. The defendant committed numerous negligent acts, including failing to provide a reasonably safe place to work and failed to provide the plaintiff with proper equipment, according to the complaint.
The plaintiff is seeking more than $50,000 in damages.
Coughlin is being represented in the case by Fritz G. Faerber III and Christine E. Anderson of Faerber & Anderson PC.
