Engineer sues Union Pacific over alleged back injuries

A railroad company is sued after an employee sustained back injuries.

James T. Mayfield filed a lawsuit Feb. 3 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Union Pacific Railroad Co., citing the Federal Employers' Liability Act.

Mayfield states he was employed by the defendant as an engineer and sustained back injuries during the court of his employment. The plaintiff contends his injuries occurred because the defendant was negligent for numerous reasons, including for failing to provide a reasonably safe place to work and failing to enact a comprehensive ergonomics program.

Mayfield is seeking more than $50,000 in damages, plus costs.

The plaintiff is being represented by Steven L. Groves of Holland, Groves, Schneller & Stolze LLC.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-141.
