A carpenters' union has filed suit against a construction company that it claims failed to pay it for work it performed on a mixed-use senior living facility.
The Carpenters’ District Council of Greater St. Louis and Vicinity filed a lawsuit Jan. 22 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Safeco Insurance Company of America and H.B.D. Construction Inc.
In its complaint, the plaintiff alleges defendant H.B.D. hired Johnson Flatwork and Finishing as a subcontractor to work on a mixed use senior living facility called Jazz at Walter Circle in St. Clair County. In turn, Johnson Flatwork was supposed to pay for each hour its carpenters worked on the project, according to the complaint.
The plaintiffs have demanded that H.B.D. pay the money allegedly owed, but it has failed to do so. They have also made a claim with defendant Safeco, but it has denied the claim, according to the complaint.
In addition to the money it claims it is owed, the Carpenters’ District Council of Greater St. Louis and Vicinity seeks liquidated damages, attorneys’ fees and costs.
They are being represented by John M. English of Kassly, Bone and English in Belleville and Matthew J. Gierse of Hammond and Shinners in St. Louis.
St. Clair County Circuit Court case number 14-L-118.
