Simmons gets into newspaper business with purchase of Today's Advantage

Asbestos attorney John Simmons has purchased a group of newspapers comprised of ads, coupons and community news from long-time owners Sharon McRoy and Jim Seibold.

Today's Advantage publications are distributed to approximately 86,000 households in the Riverbend, Granite City and Edwardsville, according to the paper's website.

Simmons is quoted in a press release issued Wednesday: "It's too early to release all of our plans because they are still being finalized, but we plan to release more information in the near future and look forward to providing quality content to our existing and future readers.”

The release states that former Alton Telegraph executives have recently started working at the paper, including former editor Dan Brannan, former ad director Johnny Aguirre, former ad rep Pat Taulbee and former circulation director Barbara Horstman.

Eric McRoy, former general manager of Today's Advantage, will continue with the paper as vice president.

The newspaper was started in 1986.
