A Madison County man is suing a tavern and a patron, alleging the bar’s negligent over-serving caused the customer to become intoxicated and viciously attack the plaintiff with a knife.
Craig A. Johnson filed a lawsuit June 4 in Madison County Circuit Court against Big Muddy Pub and Dennis Carroll, alleging negligence and invoking the Dram Shop Act as a result of an April altercation.
According to the complaint, on April 4, Carroll consumed alcoholic beverages at the pub in Alton, becoming intoxicated. The suit says Carroll then entered a nearby business at 300 State St., began shouting at Johnson and stabbed him in his upper right thigh area.
The suit states as a proximate result of Carroll’s intoxication, Johnson has: sustained temporary and permanent injuries; been prevented from attending to his usual duties and everyday affairs; incurred medical bills and anticipates continued future medical expenses.
Johnson seeks judgment for damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs. He is represented by attorney Lanny Darr of Darr Firm in Alton.
