A property owner who customarily paid her insurance premiums late, is suing the insurer because it denied payment of a fire claim.

Madison County Associate Judge Lola Maddox, the county's first woman judge, retired Nov. 30. A number of her peers and officials attended a retirement ceremony in her honor and paid tribute to Maddox's long public service.

Bilbrey's Vioxx action moved to federal court
Madison County's first class action suit against Merck & Co.'s Vioxx, filed by the mother of Edwardsville personal injury attorney Mike Bilbrey, was removed to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.
