In the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, Darren Huffman has filed a lawsuit against United States Steel Corporation (US Steel). The case, identified as 3:24-cv-01203-RJD and filed on May 1, 2024, alleges violations of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) by US Steel.

Huffman, represented by counsel, claims that he suffers from disabilities that limit his daily life activities. He was an employee of US Steel for about 17 years before he became disabled due to a back injury incurred at work in 2012. After recovering from surgery and returning to work with a lifting restriction, Huffman worked in various roles until August 2014 when additional unwarranted restrictions were placed on him due to his disability.

Huffman alleges that despite being capable of performing available jobs at US Steel, the company refused to accommodate his requests to return to work in any position or on light duty. He further accuses US Steel of having a pattern of refusing to let disabled employees return to work. Huffman is seeking judgment under the ADA and damages for these alleged violations.
