In the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, East St. Louis Division, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a lawsuit against Sis-Bro Inc., case ID 3:24-cv-00968, on March 28, 2024. The lawsuit alleges that Sis-Bro Inc. violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title I of the Civil Rights Act of 1991 by engaging in unlawful employment practices based on sex and transgender status.

The EEOC alleges that Sis-Bro subjected an employee to sexual harassment and created a hostile work environment due to her sex and transgender status. The individual, who was assigned male at birth but began transitioning in 2018, was allegedly discriminated against by Sis-Bro's president and a coworker from the time she started transitioning until her separation from the company in October 2021.

The plaintiff is seeking to correct these alleged unlawful employment practices and provide appropriate relief to the aggrieved individual who filed Charge No. 440-2022-01587.
