In the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, plaintiffs Stephen Bamburak and Ethel Bamburak have filed a lawsuit against defendants Syngenta AG, Syngenta Crop Protection LLC, and Chevron U.S.A. Inc. The case, Civil Action No.: 3:24-pq-1065, was filed on April 9th, 2024.

The plaintiffs accuse the defendants of manufacturing, distributing, and selling a synthetic chemical compound known as paraquat which has been used as an active ingredient in herbicide products since the mid-1960s. The suit alleges that the plaintiff's exposure to paraquat over many years in New Jersey resulted in personal injuries.

The complaint further states that Stephen Bamburak suffers from Parkinson’s disease caused by exposure to paraquat within the State of New Jersey. The defendants are accused of acting in concert with others who manufactured, distributed, and sold paraquat for use in New Jersey.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages for personal injuries resulting from their exposure to paraquat. They argue that there is complete diversity between them and the defendants and that the matter in controversy exceeds $75,000.
