BELLEVILLE - A tenant claims he tripped over a loose metal strip and fell down the stairs at an East St. Louis apartment.

The lawsuit was filed in the St. Clair County Circuit Court by Roy Tate against Chande Rogers, alleging negligence and premises liability.

The plaintiff claims he tripped on a loose metal strip while leaving his apartment in East St. Louis, causing him to tumble down the stairs and sustain injuries.

According to the complaint, the defendant owned, maintained, and controlled the multi-family dwelling where the incident occurred. Rogers alleges the defendant had been notified of the dangerous condition multiple times prior to the incident but failed to address it. The complaint also notes that there were no handrails for Tate to use while descending the stairs.

The plaintiff alleges that as a direct result of Rogers' negligence, he sustained serious personal injuries, which have hindered him from attending to his usual affairs and duties. He also claims to have incurred lost wages and profits due to his injuries.

Tate is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief deemed just and equitable by the court. He is represented by Mark Scoggins of Crowder & Scoggins.
