BELLEVILLE - A patient claims he suffered injuries following bypass and vascular surgeries on his leg.

The lawsuit was filed in the St. Clair County Circuit Court by Randy and Jane Hackethal against Dr. Robert Lee and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis.

The plaintiffs allege Lee, who was acting as an agent of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, failed to properly monitor Randy Hackethal's progress after he underwent bypass and vascular surgeries on his left leg. The suit states that despite multiple follow-up examinations and complaints by Hackethal, Lee did not provide or recommend revisionary or remedial treatment in a timely manner. Furthermore, the plaintiff alleges that medical records were not properly documented, including the operative note for the surgeries.

As a result, Hackethal claims he experienced severe pain, suffering, extreme mental anguish, lost wages, permanent damage and disfigurement. He also asserts that he has incurred large sums of money in medical treatment and related expenses and will continue to do so in the future.

The plaintiffs are seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000 plus costs and any further relief deemed just by the court. They are represented by Angie Zinzilieta of Wendler & Zinzilieta.
