EDWARDSVILLE - Branum Trucking is being sued by the family of deceased bus passenger Juan Ernesto Vasquez-Rodriguez after a Greyhound bus crashed into a parked tractor trailer on an exit ramp in Highland.
The lawsuit was filed by Indira Vasquez, guardian of Fiorella Cajan Cueva, and independent administrator of the estate of Juan Ernesto Vasquez-Rodriguez, Diana, Diana Huaman Verlade, Ericardo Mendoza Martinez, Angel David Hernandez, Henry Alvisurez Tol, Rafael Mendoza Martinez and Gilmer Pacheco Ek in the Madison County Circuit Court against Robert Branum Trucking, LP, a Texas Limited Partnership, and others.
According to the complaint, a tractor trailer owned by Branum Trucking was allegedly illegally parked on the north shoulder of the westbound exit ramp to the Silver Lake Rest Area on I-70 in Highland. The plaintiffs were passengers in a Greyhound Bus that collided with the parked tractor trailer. The crash killed three and injured 14 individuals. Among those killed were plaintiff Vasquez-Rodriguez, 34, of New Jersey, Buford Paya, 71, of Arizona, and Bradley Donovan, 47, of Illinois.

The plaintiffs seek a judgment against the defendants to compensate them for their injuries and the wrongful death of Vasquez-Rodriguez. They are represented by attorney Timothy Whiting.
