EDWARDSVILLE - A patient at Gateway Regional Medical Center claims he suffered pressure sores due to negligent care.

The lawsuit was filed by plaintiff Ricky R. Williams in the Madison County Circuit Court against Granite City Illinois Hospital Company, American Healthcare Systems Illinois, Integritas Emergency Physician Services, and Quorum Health Corporation.

According to the complaint, Williams was admitted to Gateway Regional Medical Center on Feb. 22, 2022, for abdominal pain and heart conditions. The hospital records allegedly do not indicate any wound or soft tissue concerns at the time of his admission. However, Williams claims that during his stay, he developed a pressure ulcer due to negligent care by the hospital staff.

Williams claims the defendants failed to provide adequate care, treatment and interventions to prevent him from developing pressure sores. He also claims they failed to provide proper diagnosis, failed to monitor and document his conditions, failed to develop an appropriate care plan, and failed to have the pressure sore treated in a timely manner.

As a result of the alleged negligence, Williams claims he suffered personal injury including infections, pain and suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement, physical impairment, loss of normal life and medical expenses.

Williams is seeking damages in excess of $50,000. He is represented by attorney Michael Blotevogel of Armbruster Dripps Blotevogel LLC.
