EDWARDSVILLE - Alton Memorial Hospital and one of its physicians are being sued after a patient died due to alleged medical negligence.

The lawsuit was filed by plaintiff Wendy Brainerd, both individually and as a legal representative of the estate of Ronald Brainard II, in the Madison County Circuit Court against Dr. Narine Sargsyan and Alton Memorial Hospital.

According to the complaint, Ronald Brainerd was a patient of Sargsyan's from Jan. 18, 2022, to Jan. 27, 2022. The suit states that the physician failed to monitor Ronald's condition, failed to recognize signs of sepsis, and failed to provide timely intravenous antibiotics. These alleged failures are claimed to have led to severe pain, suffering, mental anguish, permanent damage and disfigurement for Ronald before his death.

The lawsuit further claims that due to the defendants' alleged negligent acts or omissions, the decedent’s next of kin suffered grief, sorrow, and loss of companionship. The estate was also reportedly diminished due to incurred medical, hospital, and funeral expenses.

Wendy Brainerd is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs deemed just by the court. She is represented by attorney Angie Zinzilieta of Wendler and Zinzilieta PC.
