EDWARDSVILLE - A shopper claims she was injured when she tripped on a portion of a floor mat at the Granite City Walmart.

The lawsuit was filed by Ruth Gilley in the Madison County Circuit Court against Walmart, Inc.

Gilley alleges she was at the Granite City Walmart on Oct. 25, 2022, when she tripped on a fold or bulge in a floor mat. The plaintiff claims the retail giant negligently allowed the trip hazard to exist and failed to maintain its premises in a safe condition.

As a result of her fall, Gilley sustained injuries to her face, teeth, knees, head, shoulder, neck, hips and back.

Following the incident, Walmart employees reportedly straightened out the mat and removed the hazard.

Gilley is seeking judgment against Walmart for an amount between $50,000 and $75,000 to compensate for her pain and suffering as well as medical expenses. She is represented by Matthew R. Chapman from Roader & Chapman P.C.
