A proposed class action was filed against a credit union after it allegedly failed to notify customers about a data breach.

The lawsuit was filed in the Madison County Circuit Court by Illinois resident Trisha Bell against State Employees Community Credit Union and FedComp, Inc. over a data breach.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants' system was breached, compromising the security of credit union account holder information, including social security numbers and account information.

The lawsuit claims jurisdiction under the Illinois Code of Civil Procedure as the plaintiff's claims arise from business transacted within Illinois and tortious acts committed within the state. The defendants are said to conduct business within Illinois.

Bell alleges that neither defendant notified her in compliance with Illinois statute, which requires data collectors to notify individuals when there is a breach of the system, compromising confidential information.

The plaintiff seeks damages in the form of credit monitoring charges for one year on behalf of herself and others similarly affected. She is represented by the Maag Law Firm in Wood River.
