BELLEVILLE – A woman has filed a lawsuit against the owners of a Belleville property, claiming she was seriously injured when she slipped and fell on the icy sidewalk.

Plaintiff Latonya Gray filed a lawsuit in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Al Raza Holdings, Inc., citing allegations of negligence and premises liability.

According to court documents, on February 10, 2022, Gray was on the defendant's property located at 400 W. Main Street in Belleville. She claims that while she was on the property, she slipped and fell on black ice present on a sidewalk.

The lawsuit claims that although snow had been previously removed from the sidewalk, it refroze, creating a hazardous condition that resulted in the plaintiff's fall. Gray claims there were no signs, barriers, or warnings to alert individuals about the dangerous condition of the sidewalk. Gray contends that the defendant knew or should have known about the dangerous condition, citing previous similar injuries that occurred on the property.

Gray claims to have suffered serious and permanent injuries to her right leg and ankle, including a displaced fracture necessitating surgical repair and the placement of permanent hardware. She is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus interest, court costs, and any other relief the court deems proper.

The plaintiff is represented by attorney Michael L. Knepper of Sauter Sullivan, LLC, in St. Louis.
