EDWARDSVILLE - A man claims he contracted MRSA due to an unsterile environment while getting a COVID booster vaccination at the Collinsville CVS.

Ronald and Susan Kreke filed the complaint in the Madison County Circuit Court against CVS Pharmacy, Highland Park CVS LLC and unknown and unnamed defendants at CVS, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Ronald Kreke went to the CVS in Collinsville on Nov. 2, 2021, for his scheduled appointment to receive a COVID booster immunization. He alleges the vaccination was done without properly sterilizing the injection site or environment, resulting in him contracting MRSA.

Kreke alleges unnamed and unknown defendants at CVS failed to properly prep the injection site prior to administering the vaccine, failed to sanitize the injection site, failed to maintain a sterile environment, failed to properly administer the vaccine, and negligently introduced MRSA into the plaintiff’s bloodstream.

As a result, Kreke alleges he suffered mental anguish, disability, disfigurement and loss of a normal life. He also claims he incurred medical expenses and lost wages.

The plaintiffs seek compensation in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and all other relief the court deems just. They are represented by David Cates of The Cates Law Firm LLC in Swansea.
