BELLEVILLE – A patient of the BJC Memorial Hospital in Shiloh alleges she suffered nerve damage while delivering her baby as a result of medical negligence by the facility's employees.

Plaintiff Katherine Conreaux filed the lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Sylvia Obernuefemann, CNM, Adriena Beatty, DO, and Protestant Medical Center, Inc., doing business as BJC Memorial Hospital - Shiloh, citing medical negligence.

According to the lawsuit, Conreaux was a patient at the BJC Memorial Hospital in Shiloh to give birth to a child on Aug. 20, 2021. Conreaux alleges that during her delivery, the defendants were negligent in their failure to properly position her legs during labor, failure to properly reposition her during labor, failure to properly document her labor progress and failure to properly notify a supervising physician of her lack of progress during labor.

Conreaux alleges that as a result of the defendants' negligence, she suffered nerve damage. She claims her injuries have caused her severe pain, suffering, mental anguish and will impact her ability to earn income and lead a normal life. She adds that she has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover from her injuries.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorneys Brian M. Wendler and Angie M. Zinzilieta of Wendler & Zinzilieta, P.C. in Maryville.
