BELLEVILLE – A shopper is suing a Swansea Walgreens after she allegedly slipped and fell on some ice that melted on the floor.

Plaintiff Denise Sechrest filed the lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Bond Drug Company of Illinois, doing business as Walgreens, citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, Sechrest was a patron at a Walgreens store in Swansea on Dec. 28, 2022. Sechrest claims that while she was shopping, she slipped on some ice on the floor and fell, severely injuring herself.

According to Sechrest, the defendant negligently failed to properly maintain the premises to protect the safety of its customers

Sechrest allegedly suffered a fractured wrist, which has caused her to experience disability, pain, suffering, and lost wages. She claims her injury will impact her ability to earn income and enjoy a normal life. She adds that she has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Jeffrey A. Kopis of Jerome, Salmi and Kopis, LLC in Fairview Heights.
