Customer sues over alleged slip, fall at Mac's Convenience Store in Sparta

BELLEVILLE – A shopper is suing a Mac's Convenience Store in Sparta after she allegedly slipped and fell on at the store.

Plaintiff Kristin Schmitz filed the lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Mac's Convenience Stores, LLC, doing business as Circle K, Circle K Stores, Inc., doing business as Circle K, and an employee, citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, on May 1, 2021, Schmitz was a customer at a store located in Sparta owned and operated by the defendants. Schmitz states that while she was on the premises, she slipped on a slick substance and fell, severely injuring herself.

According to Schmitz, the defendants negligently failed to properly maintain the premises to protect the safety of its customers.

Schmitz alleges she suffered injuries, which have caused her to experience pain, suffering, mental anguish and lost wages. She claims her injuries will impact her ability to enjoy normal life and earn income. She adds that she has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Clay B. St. Clair of St. Clair, Gilbreth & Steppig, LLC in Columbia.
