EDWARDSVILLE – A wrongful death suit was filed against a truck driver who ran a stop sign and caused a fatal crash that killed Sheila Macon and her granddaughter Ciera Macon.
Plaintiffs Diane Rush, acting as independent administrator of the estate of Sheila M. Macon, Mark Macon, and Towana Williams, acting as independent co-administrators of the estate of Ciara R. Macon, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Advance Truck Line, LLC, Global Focus, LLC, Star Express Truck Lines, LLC and Daniel G. Belay, citing negligence and carelessness.
According to the lawsuit, Belay was a driver employed by Advance Truck Line, LLC, Global Focus, LLC, and Star Express Truck Lines. The lawsuit states that on Oct. 5, 2022, Belay ran a stop sign at the intersection of Illinois Route 140 and Illinois Route 4. Belay collided with a vehicle driven by Sheila Macon and carrying passenger Ciara Macon, who is Sheila granddaughter. They suffered injuries that eventually led to their deaths.
The lawsuit alleges that Sheila and Ciara sustained injuries which caused them to experience pain, suffering, mental anguish and ultimately death. The lawsuit adds that their next of kin have suffered grief, sorrow, and mental suffering from the loss of their companionship
The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus interest, court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. They are represented in this case by the attorneys of Brown & Crouppen, P.C. in St. Louis and the attorneys of Byron, Carlson, Petri & Kalb in Edwardsville.
