BELLEVILLE – Cedar Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center has been named in a wrongful death lawsuit alleging negligence lead to the death of a resident.
Plaintiff Shirley Ladowitz, acting individually and as independent administrator of the estate of Melvin Ladowitz, filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Cedar Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center, LLC, doing business as Cedar Ridge Health & Rehab Center, citing negligence and carelessness in violation of the Illinois Nursing Home Act.
According to the lawsuit, Melvin Ladowitz was a resident at the Cedar Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center from Jan. 6, 2021, through March 29, 2021. The lawsuit claims Cedar Ridge did not provide Ladowitz with proper care and supervision to protect him from significant weight loss. The suit also states that the defendants administered medications to Ladowitz against physician's orders and despite the fact that he was hypersensitive and dehydrated.
Shirley Ladowitz claims the defendants' negligence resulted in Melvin Ladowitz's death and has caused her surviving family undue grief and sorrow. Additionally, Ladowitz incurred healthcare costs related to his injuries up until his death. As he was admitted into the facility's care, he was a protected individual under the state's Nursing Home Act.
The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus attorneys fees and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Kenneth B. Graves of The Graves Law Office in Springfield.
