BELLEVILLE – A motorist is suing Road Panther Express, claiming one of its drivers suddenly stopped on the highway without warning and caused a collision.

Plaintiff Tariq W. Elamin filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against defendant 2182287 Alberta, LTD doing business as Road Panther Express, citing negligence and carelessness.

According to the lawsuit, on Jan 1, 2021, a driver employed by Road Panther Express was allegedly driving a semi-truck near I-255 in St. Clair County when he suddenly stopped his vehicle in the center lane of the highway without warning.  Elamin claims he was driving behind the defendant's vehicle and was unable to avoid a collision due to icy road conditions and how suddenly the defendant stopped.

Elamin alleges the defendant violated the Illinois Rules of the Road by negligently and recklessly stopping his vehicle in the middle of an interstate highway, failing to signal that he was stopping, and failing to get off to the side of the road.

Elamin claims he suffered severe injuries, which have caused him to experience pain and suffering. He claims his injuries will impact his ability to live a normal life. He also alleges he has incurred medical costs and will continue to require medical care to recover from his injuries.

The plaintiff is demanding a jury trial to seek damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by the attorneys Noel A. Sevastianos and James E. Beal of Rogers, Sevastianos & Bante, LLP in St. Louis.
