BELLEVILLE – A warehouse in East. St. Louis allegedly had a faulty sprinkler system during a fire, which caused extensive damage to the premises and to the property stored there.

Nations Foodservice Equipment & Design Corporation filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Jay Dinkelmann, individually and as a trustee of Legion's Trust, Sauget Properties and Sauget Warehouse Trust, citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff leased a storage bay located at a warehouse in East St. Louis owned by the defendants. The plaintiff states that on April 16, 2020, a large fire broke out at the warehouse, which caused extensive damage throughout the facility and to the property stored in the bay leased by the plaintiff. During the fire, the sprinkler system that was installed on the property was allegedly not functioning properly.

The plaintiff claims the defendants negligently failed to properly ensure that the site maintained an operational sprinkler system in violation of National Fire Protection Agency code.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. They are represented in this case by the attorneys of The Simon Law Firm in St. Louis.
