BELLEVILLE – A St. Clair County homeowner is suing Culligan Water, claiming that a faulty water appliance installation caused more than $150,000 in water damage to his home.

Plaintiff William Louis Word filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against defendants Culligan Water of Belleville, Mississippi Valley Water Conditioning Company, Riverside Water Technology, Inc., Packard Properties, LLC, and Allen Malsbury, citing negligence and breach of contract.

According to the lawsuit, the defendants own a business with a location in Belleville that sells water softeners, filters and drinking water. Word alleges that on Feb. 17, 2017, Malsbury, acting as an employee of the defendants, installed a Culligan water appliance at his residence. Word claims Malsbury failed to connect the water lines securely during the installation and failed to install a leak detection device that would automatically shut of the water in the event of a leak.

Word claims that on Nov. 30, 2017, one of the water lines became disconnected, which led to a massive water leak on his property and caused extensive damage to the premises. The plaintiff states that he has spent more than $150,000 to repair the damage to his home caused by the water leak.

Word is demanding a jury trial to seek damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs, interest and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorney Daniel W. Farroll of Goldenberg Heller & Antognoli, P.C. in Edwardsville.
