BELLEVILLE – A tenant at an East St. Louis apartment is suing the city after she allegedly stepped in a hole and suffered injuries.
Plaintiff April Washington filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against the City of East. St. Louis, doing business as East St. Louis Housing Authority, citing negligence and carelessness.
According to the lawsuit, Washington was a resident that lived in an East St. Louis apartment owned and maintained by the defendants. Washington claims that on Nov. 12, 2021, she accidentally stepped into a large hole on the property, causing her to suffer injuries.
Washington claims the defendants were negligent and careless in their failure to properly maintain the property and their failure to notify her that there was a dangerous hole on the property.
The plaintiff claims her injuries have caused her to endure pain and suffering, mental anguish, and will impact her ability to earn income in the future. Washington also alleges that as a result of her injuries, she has incurred medical costs and will continue to require medical care to recover from her injuries.
Washington is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Reed Nelson of Nelson & Nelson Attorneys at Law, P.C. in Belleville.
