EDWARDSVILLE – A Mid-America Fuels employee claims he was subject to harassment and discrimination for his age prior to his termination from the company.

Plaintiff David C. Williams filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Mid-America Fuels, Inc., citing discrimination and wrongful termination.

According to the lawsuit, Williams was employed by the defendant until he was terminated at 59 years old. He claims he was treated differently than the other employees of the company who were younger than the age of 40. Williams describes a hostile work environment where he was subject to harassment and discrimination because of his age, the suit states.

Williams alleges that during his employment, he was required to work with COVID-infected co-workers who should have been quarantined. He also alleges he was required to handle materials previously handled by COVID-infected employees.

Additionally, Williams claims his employer illegally pumped sewage into the river instead of a vac truck. He claims he reported the alleged illegal activity to authorities and that the harassment in the workplace increased afterwards in retaliation for his report.

Williams claims that because of his harassment and termination, he has endured emotional distress, mental anguish, pain, suffering, lost wages and benefits.

The plaintiff is demanding a jury trial to seek damages in excess of $50,000, plus interest, court costs, attorney fees and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorney Michael J. Brunton of Brunton Law Offices, P.C. in Collinsville.
