BELLEVILLE – A Bi-State bus passenger is suing the company after one of its employees allegedly crashed the bus into a steel pole, causing him serious injuries.
Plaintiff Derrick Hawkins filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against the Bi-State Development Agency, doing business as Metro, Jerry Lewis, Donald Harper and an unnamed driver John Doe, citing carelessness and negligence.
According to the lawsuit, on Dec. 18, 2020, Hawkins was a passenger on a public bus that was operated by the defendants. He alleges the bus suddenly crashed and struck a steel pole. Hawkins claims the bus was being driven recklessly and negligently during the time of the collision.
Hawkins claims he has suffered serious injuries which have caused him pain and suffering, mental anguish, and will impact his ability to earn income and enjoy normal life. He adds that, because of his injuries, he has incurred medical costs and will continue to require medical care to recover from his injuries.
The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs, interest and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorney Jason D. Guerra of Goldblatt + Singer in Clayton, Mo.
