BELLEVILLE – A contractor claims a church reneged on a contract for remodeling work on their building and still owes him $3.4 million.

Plaintiff Nathaniel McCloud and Nathaniel's Roofing & More, Inc. filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Lovejoy Temple Church, Elder Carl A. Smith-Pastor, Sister Vanessa Chapman, Sister Juanita Finley and Sr. Deacon Leslie "Tabb" Melton, citing breach of contract, fraud and conspiracy.

According to the lawsuit, McCloud, who is a contractor, entered into an contact with the defendants on Dec. 3, 2020, to renovate and remodel the defendants' church.
