EDWARDSVILLE – A resident at Integrity Healthcare of Godfrey claims she was raped by another resident with a known history of sexual violence.

Plaintiff Mary A. Cooper filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Godfrey Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, doing business as Integrity Healthcare of Godfrey and Integrity Healthcare Communities, LLC.

According to the lawsuit, Cooper was a resident at Integrity Healthcare of Godfrey from July 2021 through March 2022. The lawsuit states that during her residency, the recruiter at Integrity Healthcare was removed. As a result, the suit states that more dangerous residents, some with criminal records, were accepted at the facility. The lawsuit asserts that the defendants knew of the certain dangerous proclivities of these residents but accepted them to maximize profits at the expense of the residents' safety.

Cooper alleges that between January 2022 and March 2022, she was repeatedly raped by another resident with a known criminal record of violent sexual conduct. Cooper claims these attacks caused her to suffer severe UTIs. She also alleges her arm was severely injured in one of these attacks.

She alleges the defendants know of this behavior, but did not report or remove the offender from the facility. She adds that the defendants tried to cover up the attacks.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper.  Cooper also intends to seek additional punitive damages. She is represented in this case by attorney Thomas G. Maag of Maag Law Firm in Wood River.
