EDWARDSVILLE – An employee of Slotzky's tavern has filed a negligence lawsuit after falling down the stairs at work.

Plaintiff Mary E. Morris filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Slotzky's Inc., citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, Morris was employed by Slotzky's tavern in Worden. She alleges that on Dec. 22, 2020, she was at work and walking to the supply room when she fell down the stairs. She was allegedly reaching for towels, which were stored on a shelf above the stairway.

The plaintiff claims Slotzky's was negligent in failing keeping the stairway in a safe condition, failing to provide sufficient lighting and handrails in the stairway and maintaining a shelf in a dangerous location above a steep stairway.

Morris alleges she has suffered severe injuries, which have caused her to lose wages and will impact her ability to earn income and enjoy life in the future. She adds that the injuries have caused her pain and suffering, mental anguish and that she has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.

Morris is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Mark C. Scoggins of Crowder and Scoggins, LTD in Columbia.
