Madison County Circuit Judge Christopher Threlkeld awarded a Maryville nursing center more than $68,000 following a bench trial for a suit alleging a patient’s family failed to pay for services.

The bench trial was held Aug. 9, and plaintiff Elmwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center LLC was awarded $68,450, plus costs of filing and service of process.

Elmwood filed the complaint on Sept. 10, 2021, in the Madison County Circuit Court against Sharon Inman. The plaintiff was represented in its lawsuit by attorney John Wendler of the Law Offices of John D. Wendler in Edwardsville.

According to the complaint, Sharon Inman entered into an oral contract with Elmwood to provide nursing services to her husband, Terry Inman. Elmwood claims it provided skilled nursing services to Terry Inman from May 25, 2017, until he died on Sept. 28, 2020.

Elmwood alleges Inman failed to pay for the services provided to her husband, owing $68,450.

Inman answered the complaint pro se on Oct. 27, 2021, denying that she failed to make payments and owing $68,450 to the plaintiff. She also denied that the plaintiff “performed all conditions precedent to payment for its services.”
