Union Pacific Railroad employee alleges injuries from faulty wrench

Lawsuits

EDWARDSVILLE – A Union Pacific Railroad employee claims he was injured as a result of being issued improper equipment.

Plaintiff Jason A. Schalk filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against defendant Union Pacific Railroad Company, citing carelessness and negligence.

According to the lawsuit, Schalk was employed by Union Pacific Railroad Company to do maintenance and engineering work. The plaintiff states that on March 30, he was injured on the job when the wrench he was holding jerked. Schalk claims the defendant failed to provide him suitable tools to do his assigned tasks safely.

Schalk asserts that he has suffered an injury to his right shoulder, which has caused him to incur medical expenses. He claims he will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover. The plaintiff also states that he has experienced pain and suffering, mental anguish, and that his injuries will affect his earnings and his ability to earn income and enjoy life in the future.

Schalk is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorney Benjamin P. Tobin of Pratt and Tobin, P.C. in East Alton.
