BELLEVILLE - Swansea Rehabilitation and Health Care Center faces charges for allegedly neglecting to care for a resident at the long-term nursing facility.
According to the complaint, plaintiff Sharon Walker was a resident of Swansea RHCC since 2007. Then in 2020, she was admitted to a different hospital facility for treatment of an ailment. Hospital staff allegedly found multiple pressure wounds on Walker during her stay, which ultimately led to a large pressure ulcer and more than one sheer wound. The suit states that the wounds had gone untreated for weeks while the plaintiff was at Swansea RHCC.
As a result of her wounds and the consequential sepsis and medical intervention, Walker has been hospitalized since January 2021, according to the complaint.
The defendant is accused of violating The Nursing Home Care Act and Illinois Department of Public Health regulations.
Walker seeks compensation in excess of $50,000 for each violation. She is represented by attorney Jacob Runyon of Smith Clinesmith LLP in Dallas.
