BELLEVILLE - The estate of a woman who died while a resident of St. Paul's Senior Community is suing the long-term care facility, alleging she received inadequate care.
Yvonne Roby, as independent administrator of the estate of Ernestine Fenderson, deceased, filed the complaint in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against St. Paul's Senior Community LLC, Tutera Health Care Services LLC, Marilyn Kunkelmann, LPN, Desiree Willoughby, LPN and Pamela Clark, RN.
According to the complaint, Fenderson was a patient at St. Paul's from March 8, 2020, to April 20, 2020, and again from April 28, 2020, until her death on May 25, 2020.
"On April 15, 2020, Ernestine Fenderson's urine culture was positive for E. coli; and there is no indication that this was treated," the lawsuit states. "Ernestine Fenderson also was refusing meals, her physician was not notified and her nutrition interventions were not updated."
On May 19, 2020, Fenderson allegedly refused her medication, but a nurse did not notify her physician, the suit states.
"On May 20, 2020, her medications were not administered, and the physician was not notified," the lawsuit states.
On May 25, 2020, a nurse found Fenderson in an "unresponsive" state, Roby alleges.
Nursing staff allegedly failed to administer CPR and did not call 911, despite Fenderson's "full code status."
The suit, which also names several staff members at defendants, seeks unspecified monetary damages. The plaintiff is represented by attorneys with Kralovec Jambois & Schwartz.
