BELLEVILLE – A Bi-State bus passenger is suing the company after one of its employees allegedly caused the bus to lurch forward while she was getting off the bus, knocking her to the floor and injuring her.

Plaintiff Vontella Perry filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against the Bi-State Development Agency of the Missouri-Illinois Metropolitan District, citing negligence and carelessness by employee Terry Perry.

According to the lawsuit, on May 17, 2021, the plaintiff was riding as a passenger on a Bi-State bus that was being driven by Terry Perry. The defendant had allegedly come to a complete stop to let passengers off. The lawsuit states that Vontella Perry had stood up from her seat and was heading towards the exit when the driver suddenly released the brake and reengaged the break, causing the bus to lurch forward and knocking down the plaintiff.

Vontella Perry claims to have sustained injuries to her neck and back as a result of the incident, which has caused her mental and physical suffering. The plaintiff alleges that as a result of her injuries, she has incurred medical costs and will continue to require medical care to recover from her injuries.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney John L. Wilbers of The Wilber's Law Firm, LLC in St. Louis.
