BELLEVILLE - The daughter of a Caseyville nursing home resident claims her 66-year-old mother died roughly one month after being admitted to the facility because she was not given necessary medication.

Martrice Yarbrough filed the lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Caseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Inc., Kenneth Klein, Miriam Klein, Ronnie Klein, Albert Milstein, Sheldon Wolfe, Robert Krebs and Gerri Isenberg. The defendants are listed as owners, licensees, operators, mangers or directors of Caseyville Nursing.

According to the complaint, Yarbrough's mother Paula Brown was admitted to Caseyville Nursing on March 4, 2020, due to her need for a caregiver and support. She was prescribed desmopressin, prednisone and levothyroxine to be administered daily. However, the suit states that she did not receive desmopressin as ordered by her doctors. As a result, she allegedly developed critical elevation of her serum sodium and became unresponsive. She died roughly one month later on April 10, 2020, at the age of 66.

"As a direct and proximate result of Defendants' negligence referenced above, Ms. Brown died on April 10, 2020," the suit says. "Prior to her death, Ms. Brown was caused to suffer pain and mental anguish and undergo extensive medical treatment as a direct and proximate result of the above referenced negligence."

Yarbrough seeks a judgment in excess of $50,000 in damages. She is represented by Matthew O'Grady of Onder Law LLC in St. Louis.
