EDWARDSVILLE – A passenger claims a drunk driver caused an Alton collision and then fled the scene, leaving her suffering from seizures as a result of her injuries.
Plaintiff Jessica Hanneken filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Chad Phillips and Riverside Saloon, citing negligence and carelessness.
According to the lawsuit, Hanneken was a passenger in a vehicle heading westbound on Brown Street near the intersection of Spaulding Street in Alton on July 2, 2021. At the same time, Phillips was allegedly heading northbound on Spaulding Street and ran a stop sign, striking the vehicle Hanneken was in and causing it to roll onto its side. The lawsuit states that Hanneken fled the scene after the collision.
Hanneken claims that because of the collision, she has suffered injuries that cause her to have seizures. She claims she has incurred medical expenses as a result of the collision and will continue to require the services of medical staff in the future to recover. She also alleges that her injuries have caused her suffering and mental anguish and will impact her ability to lead a normal life.
Riverside Saloon is named a defendant for allegedly violating the Dram Shop Act by continuing to sell alcohol to Hanneken to the point of intoxication, which allegedly led him to commit the drunken driving incident.
Hanneken is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs, interest, and any relief the court deems to be proper. She is represented in this case by attorneys Michael P. Glisson and Timothy J. Chartrand of Williamson, Webster, Falb, & Glisson in Alton.
