GLEN CARBON - Two motorists are suing another driver for allegedly sideswiping their vehicle and causing them serious injury on Troy Road in Glen Carbon.

Plaintiffs Tharwat Hamad and Abdulatif Hamad filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against defendant Jacqueline Ellebracht, citing negligence and carelessness.

According to the lawsuit, Tharwat and Abdulatif Hamad were traveling northbound on Troy Road in the left lane near Cottonwood Road in Glen Carbon on Feb. 9, 2022. They claim that Ellebracht made a left turn from the parking lot at the corner of Troy and Cottonwood roads. The defendant allegedly crossed two lanes of traffic and collided with the plaintiff's vehicle in the far left turn lane.

Through their lawsuit, the Hamads allege they have suffered severe and permanent injuries that are "painful and disabling." They claim that they have incurred medical expenses as a result of the collision and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover. They also claim that they have been deprived of the use of their vehicle and will require a rental vehicle or alternate transportation expenses.

The Hamads are seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus any relief the court deems proper. They are represented in this case by attorneys Brian Wendler, Angie Zinzilieta and Warren Benning of Wendler & Zinzilieta, P.C. in Edwardsville.
