EDWARDSVILLE - A woman is suing the owner of a German Shepherd that allegedly attacked her as she was leaving a Granite City home.

Cheryl Day filed a lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against John Lee Seger and Deana Seger, alleging violation of the Animal Control Act and negligence.

According to the lawsuit, the defendants owned, kept or harbored a German Shepherd dog allegedly known to have a dangerous and vicious propensity. Day was visiting the defendants' son at a residence on Meridian Avenue in Granite City on Sept. 27, 2021. They were in the garage area when the dog was let go from the home while Day was leaving. She claims the dog attacked and bit her in numerous places, including her back, right leg and left leg.

Day claims she suffered scars to her legs, endured pain, suffering and disfigurement, incurred medical expenses and lost wages.

Day seeks an amount in excess of $50,000, plus interest and court costs. Day is represented by Thomas G. Kemper of Butler & Kemper in Granite City.
