More than 500 Illinois schools eliminate mask mandates for students and staff

Greenville attorney Tom DeVore, who is spearheading the legal challenges against Illinois school mask mandates, has compiled a list of the state's schools that have agreed to make masks optional for students and staff. 

On Feb. 4, Sangamon County Judge Raylene Grischow granted DeVore's request for a temporary restraining order blocking enforcement of Gov. J.B. Pritzker's COVID-19 mask mandates for schools. Pritzker immediately appealed to the Fourth District Appellate Court. 

Despite Pritzker's attempts at overturning Grischow's ruling, hundreds of schools have responded to the order by eliminating mandatory mask rules. DeVore has been keeping track on social media as schools join the movement.

As of Feb. 15, the list of schools that have made masks optional includes:
