EDWARDSVILLE - A motorist is suing another driver for allegedly causing a collision at a Godfrey intersection.
Gwendolyn Christen-Lucas filed a lawsuit on Jan. 31 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Jack Gaffney, alleging negligence.
According to the lawsuit, on May 7, 2021, Lucas was driving her 2016 Volvo XC90 southbound on Godfrey Road and stopped at the intersection of Pearl Street. Gaffney was driving his 2017 Ford Fusion westbound on Pearl Street in Godfrey when he allegedly collided with Lucas' vehicle upon approaching the intersection.
Lucas alleges Gaffney failed to properly stay within his lane, failed to reduce speed to avoid a collision, failed to make a maneuver to avoid a collision, failed to yield to the right of way, drove in excess of the posted speed limit, drove at a speed that was greater than reasonable and proper, failed to keep a proper lookout and drove while distracted.
Lucas claims she was caused to suffer physical injuries to her neck, back, shoulder and other parts of her body. She also claims she endured pain and suffering of both body and mind, loss of a normal life, mental anguish and incurred medical bills.
Lucas seeks an amount in excess of $50,000 plus costs of suit. She is represented by Michael P. Glisson of Williamson Webster Falb & Glisson in Alton.
